Introduction to Play Street Museum

Play Street Museum Katy

I would love to introduce you to Play Street Museum!  As a small business owner I am passionate about helping and supporting other small businesses. I love to collaborate and network, and I live by the term community over competition! Therefore, I will be featuring and promoting businesses I love in my blog!

Please kick things off with an introduction to yourself and Play Street Museum

Play Street Museum is an interactive children’s museum and indoor play area. Purposefully designed to encourage a young child’s sense of independence, exploration, and creativity. By narrowing the focus of our children’s museums and indoor play areas to the interests and imaginations of children eight and under. Young explorers will discover educational exhibits and activities in a world specifically crafted just for them.

How long have you lived in Katy and how long has your business been up and running?

We have lived in Katy since 03/2019. Play Street Museum Katy was opened in July 2020. It took us 8 months from build to finish.

What does your business offer the community? What ages is it best for? And what are your hours?

Age 1-8 are the best. Open Play Mon-Fri 9am-5pm (no reservation needed). Sat and Sun are reserved for Special events or birthday party (requires reservation)

Tell us a bit about you? Do you have kids, how many, and how old are they? Do you have pets?

Darren & Eilis relocated from the Chicago area in 2019 and have fallen in love with the Katy, Texas community! As they were exploring the Katy area with their nine year old son and two four old daughters they saw a need for a place where parents and caregivers could take their kiddos to use their imaginations, express their creativity, and meet new friends.

One thing that people would be surprised to know about you…

On the surface, Play Street Museum may only seem like a place for fun and play, but those are simply the vehicles by which our educational objectives are conveyed. Studies have found that young children learn best when they are in a relaxed environment and are provided with hands-on activities that support an educational goal. It is our aim to provide a valuable museum experience conveyed through that relaxed, hands-on, educational environment that allows for exploration and discovery the way children learn best, through play.

What did you do before you worked in this business?

I was a pre-school teacher with 10 years experience.

Let’s dig a little deeper into your story, has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you have had to overcome?

We opened during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a very challenging time. Thanks for the support of the local parents!

What else should we know about what you do and what your business offers?

Aside from PSM’s exhibits that promote imaginative play, we also offer the Daily Enrichment Activities that add to the guest experience. They are:

  1. Monday – Music Exploration
  2. Tue – Creation Station
  3. Wed – Science Giants
  4. Thur – Practical Life
  5. Fri – Discovery Day

What are the future plans and goals for Play Street Museum?

Continue to bring more fun activities to the kiddos. Being more engaged to the community
