What To Wear For A Branding Photo Session

What to wear for a branding photo session

One of the most common questions I get from clients is: “What should I wear for my branding photo session?” Honestly, it’s a great question—because what you wear can totally change how your photos feel. These images are more than just pretty pictures; they represent your brand, your energy, and how people connect with you. So today, I’m breaking it all down to help you feel confident, look great, and show up as the best version of yourself on camera.

What to Wear for a Branding Photo Session: Start with Your Brand

Before you even peek into your wardrobe, take a step back and think about your brand. Are you modern and minimal? Bold and fun? Warm and welcoming? Your clothing should reflect that vibe. For example:

  • If your brand is sleek and professional, think clean lines, solid colors, and a tailored blazer.
  • If you’re a creative or wellness coach, you might want flowy fabrics, soft textures, and earthy tones.
  • If you’re vibrant and outgoing, go for bold colors or fun patterns that make your personality pop.

This isn’t about dressing like someone else—it’s about aligning your outer look with your brand’s message.

Comfort Is Key (Seriously!)

If you’re tugging at a neckline or trying to keep pants from slipping down, it’s going to show. Choose outfits you can move in easily and that make you feel good. When you’re comfortable, you look more relaxed—and that’s exactly what we want in your branding photos.

Pro tip: Do a mirror test. Try your outfit on, move around, sit, stand, and raise your arms. If anything feels off or you’re adjusting constantly, it’s probably not the right fit.

Bring Layers and Options

Bringing multiple outfits gives us variety and helps us capture different sides of your brand. I usually recommend 2–3 looks:

  1. Your Go-To Outfit – The one that feels most you. Something you’d wear to meet a client.
  2. A More Elevated Look – Think professional but polished. Perfect for speaking gigs, your website’s homepage, or a profile photo.
  3. A Casual Option – Jeans and a tee? A cozy sweater? If it fits your brand, it’s a yes. This works great for behind-the-scenes or more personal content.

Bonus points for layers—cardigans, jackets, scarves—they add dimension and can be swapped quickly for variety.

Choose Colors That Flatter and Reflect Your Brand

Stick to colors that look good on you and tie into your brand palette. Jewel tones, neutrals, and earth tones generally photograph really well. Bright whites and neons can be tricky—they can reflect light in odd ways or wash you out. That said, if white is part of your brand and it works for your skin tone, we can absolutely make it work!

Avoid super busy patterns, large logos, or anything that distracts from your face. We want the focus on YOU.

Details Matter

The small things matter more than you might think:

  • Steam or iron your clothes before the session.
  • Bring backup options in case something doesn’t work on camera.
  • Shoes count, even if you’re not sure we’ll see them.
  • Avoid super trendy pieces that might look dated in a year.

Also, think about accessories. Simple jewelry can add polish, but don’t overdo it. You want to look like the elevated version of your everyday self.
